Right before Covid I was on a tour of the Shuk in Jerusalem, and I noticed some old men and young boys playing chess together. It reminded me of the prophecy that one day little children will play once again play on the streets of Jerusalem and old people sit on the streets of Jerusalem, and so I photographed the scene. When I returned home several months later, Covid hit and I decided to paint the scene and in my heart I wondered how the old people were doing if they were alive if they were well? and I called this Card Players of Jerusalem- while there a chess players also. I chose yellow and violet and blue to be the main colors in the story as I wanted to keep it somewhat masculine but playful as well.
